How Whiteness and ‘Law and Order’ Can Shape ‘Cruelty-Free’




Over the past few weeks, there have been inquiries for me to talk about intersections of systemic racism and plant-based food culture (a.k.a veganism)


I would like to share a public lecture below that I gave at University of Chicago in 2017. It’s about 27 minutes long. Though this lecture occurred five years ago, the concepts I address continue to be incredibly useful to apply as plant based commodities culture in the USA gains momentum– especially within the food tech startup space in which a majority of well-intended leaders continue a type of strategic ignorance around how a racial caste system over the last 500 years impacts ‘ethical food’ start-up business models, intentions, and vc funding.
